Interview Questions for Individual Contributor Positions

  1. Describe your understanding of diversity [inclusion] and why it is important to this position. How did you arrive at that understanding?
  2. What have you done to further your knowledge or understanding of diversity? How have you applied your learning?
  3. How would you handle a situation in which someone made a sexist, racist, homophobic, or otherwise prejudiced remark?
  4. How would you respond to a conversation between [co-workers] [students] [colleagues] that was clearly offensive to others?
  5. Have you ever realized you had said or done something that may have been offensive to a [colleague] [student] [co-worker]? How did you respond to that realization, and what was the outcome?
  6. Tell me about a time when you worked with a (student/patient/co-worker) with a different background/culture than yours. What did you do to ensure that you were inclusive of their identity during your interaction?
  7. Please share an example that demonstrates your respect for people and their differences; how have you worked to understand the perspectives of others?
