What is Zoom AI Companion?

Zoom AI Companion is an integrated artificial intelligence assistant within the Zoom platform that uses generative AI to help users with tasks.  The host of the meeting must turn on AI Companion.  Participants can request AI Companion to be enabled for the meeting, and the host will get a request.  Note that everyone in the meeting will be asked if they are okay with the meeting being transcribed; if they choose NO, they will leave the meeting.

How to Start AI Companion:

Meeting hosts can start AI Companion by clicking on the button at the bottom of the meeting screen.

Once enabled for a meeting, AI Companion can answer questions in real-time for meeting attendees, such as:

  • Was my name mentioned?
  • What topics have been discussed?
  • Are there any action items?
  • What are my takeaways?
  • When did Rick say he wanted to meet again?

It can also provide a meeting summary, identify key points and action items, as well as next steps.

More about AI Summaries

The AI Summary generated by Zoom's AI Companion can be found on the Zoom Web Portal; just click "Meeting Summary."

What to Keep in Mind

Only the meeting host will receive the summary (which can be shared with other meeting attendees).  We recommend proofreading all summaries before sharing.

An AI Summary is not recommended for every meeting.  Remember that anything transcribed is considered University record and has a retention period of two years.

Next time, we'll dive further into AI Companion, so stay tuned for more tips that put the power of technology at your fingertips!
