Compliance with the Fly America Act is essential when booking foreign travel funded by the U.S. Federal Government. This regulation requires the use of U.S. (flag) carriers for all foreign travel charged to a federal grant.
Certain exceptions to the Act may be used to fly non-US airlines (e.g. Open Skies agreements, number of connections, extending travel time).
The School of Engineering Research Administration Office has created the Fly America Act Exception Form, designed to document and justify cases where exceptions to the Act are being used. This Form must be completed when booking the trip and uploaded along with other supporting documentation for Expense Reimbursement requests.
You can find the exception form on the UVAFinance website here: Fly America Act Exceptions Form.
Thank you for ensuring compliance with federal travel regulations!
