Earlier this month, the Office of the Provost shared a message recognizing the essential role of UVA’s student employees—and it’s worth sharing again.
Across Grounds, more than 7,000 student employees help keep the University running. From research and teaching support to administrative tasks and extracurricular programming, these students contribute meaningfully to the work we do every day. Their efforts enrich our academic community and advance UVA’s mission in education, research, and patient care.
If you supervise student workers, you’re invited—and encouraged—to help spread the word about several upcoming opportunities designed just for them:
🎓 Celebrate Your Skills Workshop
Make the Most of Your Student Employment Experience
Tuesday, April 15 – 12:00 PM
Newcomb South Meeting Room
Hosted by the UVA Career Center, this workshop helps student employees reflect on the value of their work experience and learn how to leverage it professionally. Managers are welcome to attend alongside their student employees!

🌟 Outstanding Student Employee Award
Do you work with an amazing student employee? Consider nominating them for recognition! This award honors undergraduate or graduate student workers who demonstrate exceptional dedication, initiative, or leadership in their roles.

In addition to these University-sponsored events, we encourage you to find your own meaningful ways to thank the student employees in your area. A personal note, shoutout at a team meeting, or small gesture of appreciation can go a long way.
