In his new position as a Senior Financial Analyst in the Office of Financial Planning & Analysis, Duane Miller brings a vast amount of experience from his work at the Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts and Department of Education and also an abiding love of UVA basketball. Both will serve him well in his first role in higher education.
Out of all his government-based work, one of Miller's favorite experiences was his tenure at the Virginia Department of Education, so when the opportunity to join UVA came up, his interest was piqued. It helped that a former colleague of his, Brian Logwood, had also made the switch to UVA.
In his new role on the budget team, Miller will focus on state government operations and coordination with state offices and agencies, as well as analytical work.
"This role is the right mix of new challenges and utilization of my experiences and skill set," says Miller.
"Higher Ed is a whole new world in a lot of respects, and I'm looking forward to learning something different and new."
Besides being a big sports fan, Miller is also a self-proclaimed "music person" who enjoys attending concerts when he can. Miller and his wife Kate have a soon-to-be five-year-old daughter, Evelyn.
